Pastor's Penpoint - "Be Strong and Courageous" - March 2016

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the Lard our God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

First, friends - let me say thank you on behalf of the Lilley family to those of you who have reached out to us over the last several weeks. Your calls, texts, emails and face to face words of love and encouragement have meant so much to us.

While we do find ourselves in the curious position of realizing we will soon be without a church family for the first time in nine years, we are no less appreciative of those who accepted us among your numbers as members of the church.

In my eleven years of ministry serving as preacher/pastor (over nine at Mt. Olivet) I have never lost sight of one important truth. The call to such a ministry is a great blessing and honor. Fortunate are those who have had the opportunity to answer that call and attempt to make a positive impact on the lives they interact with as well as the participation in building God's kingdom. I have always considered this calling and my ordination to be extremely humbling and gratifying. I am grateful my ordination as a UB elder will continue and Dina and I will maintain our membership with the UB National Conference.

Allow me to again fulfill what is perhaps the greatest responsibility I have as your pastor (for the time that is remaining) and that is to point you to Jesus Christ. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, more important than focusing on Jesus Christ.

In the weeks and months to come, the prayers of the church, the deliberations of the Administrative Board and the searching for God's will - will occupy much of your time. But you are not alone. Scripture assures us there is a helper, the Holy Spirit, who will come and minister to all who seek God's face and perfect will. I encourage and challenge you t remain open to the Spirit's leading and look forward expectantly to God's response.

My closing words will be the same as in found in Jude 1:16-21:

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear - hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy - to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!

Friends above all else stay in the love of Gd! Be strong and courageous!

Blessings and peace to you,
Todd
